What's the difference between EIT and DIT?
EIT is Engineering Information Technology. Engineering Information Technology (EIT) provides information technology support to the faculty, staff, and students of the A. James Clark School of Engineering to advance the School's teaching and research goals. Services EIT provides include:
- A Help Desk for technical support and consultation
- Over 35 technology equipped classrooms and conference spaces
- More than 500 student seats for computer labs, both physical and virtual
- Web applications, site development, and web maintenance for the Clark School
- On-going support and consultation for learning technologies, both online and in the classroom
- A state-of-the-art technology infrastructure that is largely virtualized
- the Engineering Copy Center, a one-stop shop for your printing, copying, scanning, and web and publication design needs
- Distance Education Technology and Services for delivering courses at a distance via video conferencing and/or streaming media around the world
DIT (formerly OIT) is the Division of Information Technology, which is an organization whose mission is to plan, maintain and enhance the IT resources for the entire UM campus. DIT provides the following services:
- Telecommunications and Networking services
- Campus-wide instructional technology support
- Main-frame and High performance computing support
- Software Licensing
- Campus Administrative and Enterprise Application Systems
- Software/Database development and maintenance
- Academic Computers for Terps - Computer equipment procurement assistance
- Manages Campus Email & Directory services
- Develops and enforces Policy on the Acceptable Use of Information Technology on campus
