Engineering IT Service Updates

September 21, 2011

Integration with Terp Connect
We have integrated both our computer labs and Virtual Computer Lab with TerpConnect services, so that you can now save files directly to your TerpConnect account. TerpConnect is a file storage and web hosting service that provides you with 1 GB of free space and is backed up on a daily basis.

When you login with your directory ID and password on a workstation in an EIT computer lab, your computer will map an H:\ drive to your TerpConnect space, which will allow your desktop and other folders to follow you from machine to machine. Please note we are still refining the integration. Let us know if you have a problem by emailing eithelp@umd.edu.

Virtual Computer Lab Updates
The Virtual Computer Lab has an increased server capacity for better performance on remotely accessing engineering related software. On the VCL applications page, you will find a folder called “TerpConnect”. Launching applications from this folder will map your TerpConnect home space to the T: drive. If you have any questions or comments on the VCL, please email us at vcl-support@umd.edu.

Facility Upgrades
We have upgraded the hardware in the two Kim Building (KEB) computer labs, rooms 2107 and 2111. The workstations now feature 24" wide screen monitors.

Resnik Lecture Hall, Room 1202 in Martin Hall (EGR), has been significantly renovated with brand-new seating, an instructor station, whiteboards, paint, and carpet. The new seating has a power outlet at every seat; however, the power outlet will not be energized until early in the semester.
