Engineering IT Data Center Refresh Featured In EDTECH Magazine
February 9, 2012Engineering Information Technology's recent data center refresh was spotlighted in an article titled "Rethinking the Data Center", published in the Winter 2012 issue of EDTECH magazine. The article describes how EIT managed to resolve a lack of space in the data center by reorganizing server rows in an energy-efficient pattern and installing a new Emerson Liebert CRV cooling system. EIT Executive Director Jim Zahniser reports, “The CRV delivers much more efficient cooling. It also lets us build out cooling capacity as we need to add servers and applications."
The results of the data center refresh were dramatic: energy expenses were reduced by approximately $5,000 per year, and capacity for adding new hardware to expand the Clark School's computing resources increased significantly. “We’ve gone from squeezing things into corners and spots in the existing racks to having the ability to build out the entire additional equivalent of our infrastructure again,” Technology Officer Omar Siddique declares.
